We will ensure that congestion is made no worse by the residents and shoppers attracted by a revitalised town centre. In fact, we predict that the appeal for residents of staying in town will take some local traffic off the roads.
Our analysis shows that quite simple measures can be effective in improving traffic flow:
• Widening and redesigning the roundabout at the junction of East Barnet Road and
Victoria Road.
• Creating a dedicated lay-by and bus stop on East Barnet Road that will enable other traffic to keep moving when buses stop.
We will work with the London Borough of Barnet and Transport for London on a wider traffic management strategy, directing vehicles away from congested areas and distributing them more evenly throughout the town centre.
We believe that New Barnet’s good bus network has currently unused potential.
